Michael Jackson once said
“I’m gonna make a change,
For once in my life
It’s gonna feel real good,
Gonna make a difference
Gonna make it right”
If you sang those words instead of reading it. You are the real MVP.
Who starts a nonprofit blog with a song from Michael Jackson? DLF does.
Those words resonated with me and it is still true today. Growing up, I might not have had everything I wanted, but I had everything I needed. Thanks to CJ (RIP Daddy) and Bami for that, my awesome parents. Education and the right to education has always been important to me, I believe it is the foundation we stand upon.
Creating this organization is my way of creating awareness that there is still work to be done in the African Educational System. It still baffles me that government nursery and primary schools are still very underfunded. This is the foundation that builds up a child of what they will come to know in life.
Here are some statistics by the Borgen Project.
- Africa has the highest rates of educational exclusion in the world. Over one-fifth of children between the ages of 6 and 11 and one-third between the ages of 12 and 14 are out of school.
- Almost 60 percent of children in sub-Saharan Africa between the ages of 15 and 17 are not in school.
- Girls are much more likely to stay out of school than boys. Nine million girls between the ages of about 6 and 11 in Africa will never go to school at all, compared to six million boys
- If every girl in sub-Saharan Africa completed even just a primary education, the maternal mortality rate would likely decrease by 70 percent.
I know I can’t change all, but I would love to change some of these statistics. Would you join us?
